NOTES OF A MEETING OF THE WENDENS AMBO SOCIETY COMMITTEE HELD ON 28 SEPTEMBER 2004 AT THE OLD VICARAGE

Present: John Goodger, Margaret Pryor, Philippa Croft, Micheal Lovegrove and Jane Morley.

Apologies: Denis Dunstone, Colette Porter, Lizzie Silk and Richard Strong.

PAST ACTIVITIES

M11

As promised at the AGM, Jane had written to Sir Alan Haselhurst enquiring as to whether there was any update on the widening of the M11. Sir Alan had replied enclosing a copy of a letter from the Dept. of Transport, which said that the Highways Agency is continuing to carry out detailed work on proposals to include the M11 into the Targeted Programme of Improvements (TPI). They expect to complete this work later on in 2004 and following entry into TPI the M11 Scheme would be fleshed out and then opened for public consultation.

ONGOING ACTIVITIES

SUBSCRIPTIONS

John issued the list of which Committee Member is collecting where, plus the necessary paperwork.  Michael and Lizzie were excused, because of other commitments, but Lizzie might help Margaret.

Some Members joined at the AGM – John has highlighted this on the paperwork.

We are to hand copies of the Footpath Map (see below) to people who join.  Membership is £2 for an individual and £4 for a household.

CONTACT LIST

The Meeting agreed that the Contact List should be updated and reissued at the same time as Subscriptions are issued to all the Village. Jane will update the List.

FOOTPATH MAP

Everyone who has seen it has commented just how good the Footpath Map is.

Colette will produce some folders that the Map could be kept in for sale in the back of the Church.

Depending upon sales (and once members all had copies) we might also make copies available in the Pubs and at Audley End News and at the Tourist Office should these outlets want them.

Philippa will provide Richard with a flat copy for scanning into the Web Site. This copy would then be covered for display in the Porch of the Church.

Only The Bell has yet to pay for their sponsorship of the Map.  John will chase.

PHOTOGRAPHS OF WENDEN

Cataloguing and Storage: Colette has listed by area/type all the photos we displayed at the Photo Fair listed.

Colette will speak to Denis about which ones he wants back, but firstly Richard will scan the appropriate ones onto the Web Site.

(Richard will get the material remaining with Denis for the Web Site as well.)

John has enquired about the purchase of 2 ‘fireproof’, metal boxes for the storage of the photos we displayed and the remaining material, which is still with Denis. They appear reasonably priced, but John will make further investigations to see if we can get them cheaper still.

We will store in our attics.  We will put silicon in with the photos to lessen damage from damp.

We must not forget the cataloguing of the photos etc still with Denis.

WEB SITE

Richard has almost finished the overall of the Site – it should be ready for the next Meeting.  The map and Photos will be a good addition.  Michael has provided some text re the Church/Choir.

DRAWINGS OF MACKAY AND DRAYTON HILL BARN

Ongoing with John.

PLANNING

WESTBURY BARN

Appeal still outstanding – it will be heard in Bristol!

AREA AROUND THE CHURCH

The Meeting discussed the desirability of the land around the Church for residential development purposes.  All agreed that access and, especially from WAS’s perspective, the impact on the environment of the historical centre of the Village, were issues to be considered.  Michael offered to sound Lord Braybrooke out on his views of development of the Estate’s land in the Village.  It was agreed that this would be best left until we knew the outcome of Westbury Barn, in case this needed discussion too.

CORNER OF ROOKERY LANE AND DUCK STREET

Jane had written on behalf of WAS to object to the development of the Area. We had received a holding reply from Uttlesford.

AUDLEY END HOUSE AS A CONFERENCE VENUE

It now looked as though these plans by English Heritage have been dropped. Their had been a lot of local objections, especially about the size and positioning of the proposed Car Park.

COURTLANDS

There is still a proposal for 3 residential developments here, but it is unclear as to whether it has been approved or not.  John will check.

Drayton Farm Cottage – extension approved.

Mobile Unit for Dry Cleaners at the Station – approved to be retained.

TREASURER’S REPORT

WAS has £3073.47 in the Building Society.

AOB

Roundabout at bottom of Sparrow’s Hill: Colette will report at our next Meeting on the latest plans and on the outcome of the meeting the residents of Sparrow’s End had with the planning people.

Photos of Village: Richard is going to take some photos of the Village (not people’s houses unless they agree first) for posterity/archive purposes.  The Meeting agreed that this would be an excellent idea so that we could put together an Album of the Village in 2004/5 which perhaps future residents could replicate in say 10 or 20 years time etc.

NEXT MEETING

Wednesday 24 November at Crispin House.
